As one of the first approved centres with SFJ Awards for the qualification, the The Square Metre Group™ has officially launched the Level 3 Award in Counter-Terrorism Protective Security and Preparedness, marking a pivotal moment for the events and security industry. This qualification holds the unique distinction of being the only programme endorsed by both Counter-Terrorism Policing and the National Counter Terrorism Security Office (NaCTSO).
The overwhelming response from industry leaders at the UKCMA highlights a growing urgency for venues to align with the new standards set by Martyn’s Law (2025). Previously recognised as the “Competent Person in the Workplace” (CPiW) programme, the course has been restructured to transform how premises protect themselves against modern threats. The Square Metre Group™ is proud to be the first centre in the country to deliver this revised curriculum, which directly addresses the requirement for venues to appoint a “Competent Person” to oversee protective security measures.
The first delivery in the UK of the CTPSAP is scheduled for 9–13 March 2026 at The Abbey Hotel in Redditch. This five-day intensive programme combines expert-led training with rigorous assessments, including a multiple-choice examination and a written assignment focused on risk identification and vulnerability assessment. The process concludes with a guided professional discussion to ensure participants can translate their learning into a robust, actionable security plan tailored to their specific environment.
Graduates of the programme will leave not just with a qualification, but with a comprehensive Counter-Terrorism Risk Assessment and Preparedness Plan ready for immediate implementation. As the industry looks toward a more secure future, this Redditch launch represents the point where theoretical preparedness evolves into tangible operational capability.
