LCL Bike Ride is back and cyclists are urged to join the celebrations of the 30th year and pedal for purpose to support children and families across the region and promote safeguarding in sport

The historic Liverpool Chester Liverpool bike ride will be back with bang on Sunday 2nd July 2023 offering cycling fans from across the UK the opportunity to discover stunning landscapes across Liverpool, Wirral, and Chester through 6 different cycling route options.

We are delighted to announce that this year, once again, the headline charity is the NSPCC, which supports families across Liverpool and the UK all year round, and this week (OCTOBER 3-9), is promoting- Keeping Your Child Safe In Sport Week.

The campaign is designed to encourage parents whose children attend sports clubs to find out more about safeguarding in sport, giving them the knowledge to spot the signs something might be wrong and the confidence to raise it with a club’s safeguarding lead or the NSPCC Helpline.

The impact of the Covid19 pandemic forced NSPCC to provide virtual sessions only for the Speak Out and Stay Safe programme in schools. However, next year’s LCL bike ride will help raise £40,000, which will contribute towards retraining staff and enabling the provision of one-to-one sessions in-person once again, to support children in schools across Merseyside from the NSPCC’s hub at the Hargreaves Centre in Great Homer Street, Liverpool.

With the annual bike ride celebrating its 30th anniversary this year, Pennine Events have transformed the event to celebrate all things cycling and reunite the cycling community to Pedal for Purpose; including a complete a limited edition brand colour and revamped festival finish villages – as well as the unforgettable experience of riding through the Queensway tunnel traffic-free.

Jannette Drew, Community Fundraising Manager at NSPCC said: “We were hugely grateful to Pennine Events for making the NSPCC their headline charity in 2022, and we’re equally delighted that they’re supporting us next year for the bike ride’s 30th anniversary milestone.

“We know everyone who took part in this year’s event found it an exciting opportunity to ride through car-free sections of the region while raising vital funds to support the NSPCC, and we would love to see even more people support the event next year. Every pound raised will go towards helping us help children and young people here in the North West, so we’re sincerely thankful for everyone’s support.”

LCL Bike Ride’s longstanding commitment to community engagement, supporting amazing local charities and reunite the cycling community.

Alissa Koopal, CEO of Pennine Events said: “We’re delighted to announce the return of our beloved headline charity partner- NSPCC, and excited to see thousands of cyclists re-uniting to celebrate the 30 amazing years of the LCL Bike Ride! As part of this partnership, we have ensured free places for all children aged under 15 and continue to be an all-abilities and non-competitive event – to promote cycling, healthy living and also- community for all. We are thrilled to announce that the event will also be supporting Clatterbridge Cancer Charity and Alder Hey Children’s Charity, so I would encourage everyone to get involved, strap on their helmets and power up their pedals for such fantastic causes.”
