NoNonsense Group has completed the design, engineering and delivery of a new premium residency stage for OCESA at Mexico City’s flagship venue, GNP Seguros Stadium, creating one of the most technically capable concert stages in the world.
The project marks the latest chapter in a relationship spanning almost 15 years between NoNonsense Group and OCESA, the largest promoter in South and Central America. Working together, the two organisations have created a venue capable of attracting and delivering the biggest touring productions in the world, giving global artists a stage in Mexico City that can accommodate the full scale of their shows.
In the last 12 months alone, the stage has hosted Oasis, Shakira, Kendrick Lamar, Imagine Dragons, Zoé and Guns N’ Roses, with shows planned for Harry Styles, Bruno Mars and Iron Maiden in the coming months.
The modular stage, installed at OCESA’s GNP Seguros Stadium venue in Mexico City, gives touring productions the space, rigging capacity and support they need to bring their shows exactly as intended.
For both Shakira and Oasis, that meant being able to present their full production in Mexico City without compromise. Oasis’ touring team were particularly impressed that the Atlas roof could accommodate their A stage in its standard configuration, something many venues across North America had not been able to achieve.
The stage is the result of almost 15 years of collaboration between NoNonsense Group and OCESA. As demand from international touring productions increased, the two companies worked together to create a permanent residency structure capable of supporting major global tours and OCESA’s own internationally recognised festivals.
NoNonsense Group led the project from concept design through to engineering and delivery. The structure incorporates a substantial roof system, integrated video goalposts, large-scale cowsheds, VIP platforms, Layher scaffold and NoNonsense Group’s own in-house decking system.
Alongside the physical structure, NoNonsense Group has helped create a lasting local legacy by training OCESA’s crew to build, de-rig and operate the stage. A core team of 20 to 25 Mexican crew can now rebuild the structure in as little as 36 hours.
That capability is critical to keeping pace with GNP Seguros Stadium’s packed programme. Following AC/DC’s load out earlier this month, the stage was rebuilt and fully production-ready in time for The Weeknd just four days later.
Steve ‘Jumbo’ Richards, co-director of NoNonsense Group, said: “We have worked with OCESA for close to 15 years and together we’ve created a stage that allows Mexico City to compete with any major venue in the world.
“It’s not just about the structure. We’ve trained and supported the local crew so they now have the skills and confidence to build the stage themselves and deliver these world-class shows to the very highest standard.”
The collaboration between NoNonsense Group and OCESA has helped position GNP Seguros Stadium as one of the leading stadium venues in the world and a destination capable of attracting the biggest names in live entertainment.
