Richard Limb our President has successfully completed a solo unsupported cycle ride across Australia. 1700 miles from Port Augusta in the south to Darwin in the north.
The route known as the Stuart Highway Crosses some of the remotest and hottest parts of Australia – across the red centre. Distances of up to150 miles without habitation forced regular bush camps and serious water shortages. Inability to pass water and produce salvia and digest food was at times inconvenient. Half a million pedal strokes were required and approx 186000 calories of energy and 500 litres of water used. Water was often potentially contaminated rain water .Temperatures up to 52c and lack of shelter added flavour along with millions of flies and ants. Constant pressure on his hands has resulted in chronic inflammation of the ulna nerve of his right hand. When asked why he did it, his reply was—the challenge, adventure ,fun and his mobile phone did not work.
NOEA received regular updates on Richard Limb's cycle ride across Australia along Stuart's Highway and all is going well.
