2007 was a great year for NOEA, 2008 will be an exciting year BUT DO NOT FORGET 2009 will be the 30th Anniversary of the Association and plans are already in hand!
Also great news about membership – more of that later!
As I reported at the Annual General Meeting in Bristol last November, each year we drive ourselves to make the Convention more successful, plan enough regional conferences and seminars to meet the demands of members and indeed to push forward for more members – at the end of August the number was 427 but inevitably we lost a few members at the end of a new financial year – see Membership section later in this report.
This report covers the period from September 2006 through to August 2007 although of course there are some grey areas! There is a long lead-in time for arranging conventions and conferences, together with other developments and therefore it is difficult to keep this report exclusive to the period mentioned above. The following is a brief report on our activities and services for the benefit of Members:-
The first major challenge of the Event Industry Forum was the sudden appearance of the proposed British Standard 8901 for the Sustainability of Event Management on 5th July. Michael Bell, NOEA’s BSI panel member has written a full article elsewhere so no further comment from me!
The Association’s most important event was the National Convention and Tribute Celebration Evening held at the Chateau Impney, Droitwich Spa, Worcestershire (28th February – 2nd March). Also held there in 2006.
NOEA CONVENTION AND TRIBUTE CELEBRATION EVENING 2007 - 2008
This has become the most important event organised by the Association.
It involves so many different aspects of the industry – topical issues of the day, the networking event of the year, Keynote Speakers and a celebration evening to remember together with attracting new members and generally raising the profile of the Association year by year.
The 2007 Convention and Tribute Celebration Evening took place at The Chateau Impney, Droitwich Spa, Worcestershire (28th February-2nd March) on the theme “Celebrating cultural diversity in outdoor events – Europe & Youth”. Some 125 delegates attended with nearly 175 members and guests enjoying the Tribute Celebration Evening.
SRD Group exhibiting at NOEA Convention 2008
A huge thanks is recorded to Stuart Roberts, SRD Group Ltd for sponsoring production, staging and audio systems over the last4/5 years but they now wished to concentrate their own time exhibiting and attending as delegates.
At the time of going to press, your Convention Team has been working extremely hard on the 2008 Convention. Most of the 2007 principal sponsors and one or two new ones will be supporting 2008 including Access all areas, Capita Symonds Ltd, City of Westminster, Fully Fused Fireworks, Horsey Lightly Fynn, Main Event magazine, Select Security & Stewarding Ltd, Specialized Security, Stage Electrics, Sunbaba, Sygma Safety Ltd, The Staging House Ltd, The White Book, Wilde Ones (International) Ltd and DTP Print & Design. Our designated charity for this year is The Woodlark Trust.
This sixth annual convention has taken place at The Oxford Belfry, Nr Thame, Oxfordshire (27th-29th February) on the theme “Sustainability – Building a strong future for the UK Events Industry – 2012 and beyond”. At the end of November 2007, NOEA was delighted to announce that Michael Eavis of Glastonbury Festival would be the Opening Keynote Speaker.
